As most of you are aware, yesterday's meeting (10/30) was a career exploration, hosted by Martha Timberlake (Thank you, Martha!). Seeing as choosing a career starts out as a very broad process, Martha gave us the resources to narrow down a career choice.
An important aspect is to take into consideration your interests (not your skills, but your interests). It can be difficult because we all have the tendency to think about what we're good at, but as Martha put it, she is great at doing laundry. That is a skill that she has developed, but is that what she wants to do for a job? You may be skilled at something, but focus on what you're interested in. I personally thought that was a great starting point. Martha has a worksheet that provokes deeper thought into choosing the career path you want to start on, so if you would like a copy, I'm sure she has extras...
Another great resource is to visit http://www.cwidaho.myplan.com/. The website includes career assessments, college connections, answers to your questions, tools and calculators to help you decide which career is right for you, and a better understanding of the benefits and risks involved in choosing a career. Signing up is free, but you will need an access code, which you can probably obtain from a teacher, fellow classmate, or One Stop.
Two weeks from yesterday, will be part II of Career Exploration. It is on Friday, November 13 at 9:30am in room 218. And remember, the day after that, November 14, is Rake Up Boise. It's not too late to sign up, and you get a free t-shirt just for showing up (and participating)! Time and location is yet to be determined.

Career Exploration!
I'm sorry this post is so late, and I know most of you won't read this, but I'm posting it anyway in hopes that someone might see it. Tomorrow (Friday, 10/30) is Part I of Career Exploration. It's Psychology Club, but we will be exploring careers outside of the field of Psychology because we realize that not everyone in Psych Club is a Psych major. It is at the regular scheduled time for our meetings (9:30am), and we hope that the time doesn't scare anyone away (so close to Halloween; how appropriate..?). Sorry about all that punctuation in one spot. Part II of Career Exploration will take place two weeks from tomorrow (11/13, the day before Rake Up Boise [I keep wanting to abbreviate it RUB, but that doesn't seem appropriate], which hopefully you plan on attending as well). Again, I'm sorry for the late notice, and I'm sorry for going off on so many tangents, and I'm sorry for saying "sorry" so much. It's late. I hope to see you tomorrow morning!

Room 218
Keep in mind that our next three meetings will NOT be in Room 102E like they have been in the past. We got Room 218 reserved for these meetings. I have already changed it on the calendar, so refer to that for the next couple months if you forget. The movie night this Friday is still in 102E.

Today's Meeting 10/16
Today's meeting went really well, and if you missed it, you missed some important stuff. That's why we have this blog! But keep in mind that it doesn't by any means substitute for a meeting...
Here are the things we went over:
1. T-Shirts: We will be having two sets of t-shirts made. For the first set, we will be fixating iron-ons to tee shirts so that we can have something in common to wear for Rake Up Boise, coming up in November. The cost of these shirts will be around $5, give or take. The second set of t-shirts will be more professional because they will be screen printed, and they will be our actual Psychology Club t-shirts. The Art Department will be working on a design for these, but if you come up with an interesting design, we would like to hear from you as well. The cost of these is yet to be determined, but you can expect them to be around $10, give or take. Please reply to this post stating your size and from which set you will be purchasing (if not both).
2. Rake Up Boise: This event will take place on Saturday, November 14. We have sent in the application, but it is not too late to participate. We do not know where we will be meeting nor do we know what time we will be meeting, but I will literally keep you posted. If you work on Saturdays, it might be a good idea to get the day off because we will be getting together after we're done raking for social reasons. If you have not yet signed up, it's not too late, so please reply to this post stating your first and last name and possibly your email. If you are uncomfortable putting your email on this blog, you can email me at cwipsych@gmail.com, and I will get your information into the right hands. If you don't think Rake Up Boise sounds fun, then you are wrong, and we have a picture to prove how wrong you are (click on the picture to see a larger view - it's better; trust me):

Please don't show up and expect to be lazy like Russ, who is in fact eating a sandwich.
3. Movie Night: Our Halloween movie night, as indicated by the calendar in the right hand column of this blog, is next Friday, October 23 at 5:30 pm. We voted on a movie, and we will be watching The Brothers Grimm, starring Heath Ledger and Matt Damon. Though this is not necessarily a Halloween movie, it's kind of creepy, so it works. You may RSVP to this event by joining this blog (if you don't know how, a previous post tells you how). It is rated PG-13 because it has some "frightening sequences," so if you have young children, please be aware of that.
That's about all we discussed during this meeting. For our next meeting, we will be going of Psychology careers in regards to guest speakers, as well as other business (I would assume), so please attend for that.

Calendar
For your reference, I fixed the times on the calendar, so don't imagine them being one hour off anymore (if you were doing that in the first place, that is). The meetings should say 9:30, and the movie should say 5:30. And as Steven kindly pointed out, the date for the movie night said 9/23 when it should have been 10/23, so if you had not already figured that out, he did it for you, and you should thank him next time you see him.

Do you know how to join this blog?
There's a counter at the bottom of this page, so the page is being seen, but no one new is joining. I've heard that some people aren't members on this blog because they don't know how to join. So I will tell you. In the right hand column, there is a spot where it shows the "followers." If you click the link with the Google logo that says "Follow," a window will pop up prompting you to sign in with any of the accounts listed. If you don't have any accounts under those companies, most (if not all) of them are free, so you can just sign up under one. It's smooth sailing from there.. No more confusion, and no more reason not to join!

Time
So as it seems, I am unable to change the times on the Calendar. For example, when I put data into the calendar for our meetings, I make it say "9:30," but for some reason unknown to me, the blog insists on saying "8:30." So I thought I'd change time zones in the blog's settings. Apparently, it doesn't matter what time zone it's set at because I even put it in Bujumbura's time (I don't know where that is, either) and it still read 8:30. Hopefully someday I'll figure out what's going on, but for right now just keep in mind that the calendar is an hour off.
New Officers
Congratulations to Sondra Rhinehart and Steven Harder, the newest officers in the CWI Psychology Club!
